The American Society of Naval Engineers is pleased to issue a call for papers for the 2016 Launch and Recovery Symposium. Previous Launch and Recovery Symposia were outstanding successes drawing upon leading experts from around the world to discuss emergent technical issues. The 2014 Launch and Recovery Symposium placed emphasis on mission effectiveness, safety and affordability.
For the 2016 Symposium, the theme is Operational Lessons Learned and Designing for Safe and Effective Operability, Regulatory Conformance, and Affordability. This theme applies to both commercial and government organizations, and is focused on achieving the highest operational return on total ownership cost, while abiding by regulations and minimizing all operational risks. Special emphasis should be placed on utilizing operational lessons learned and simulation based design and training tools (especially related to ship-air dynamic interface modeling).
Participation is encouraged from all international segments of industry and government with an interest in improving vehicle operations from surface craft, and also from all researchers, designers and manufacturers who contribute the necessary technologies or products. The scope of the conference is intended to include all aspects of launch and recovery of manned and unmanned vehicle systems (surface, air and subsurface) from surface platforms, and the vehicles themselves.
The symposium committee encourages new and returning participants to present their operational experience, technological developments and current research. In addition, papers related to new concepts or processes intended to improve mission effectiveness, improve safety, reduce total ownership costs and meet new or existing regulations are encouraged. These submissions are welcome from all segments of the international marine community including but not limited to governmental naval, coast guard, environmental and natural resource management agencies; commercial shipping, construction and salvage operators; the offshore energy industry; and designers and manufacturers who support these segments. Complete technical papers with an accompanying presentation are desired, however standalone presentations will be accepted. Exceptional papers will be considered for publication in the ASNE Naval Engineers Journal.

Abstract Submission
Please submit your abstract/proposal no later than March 25, 2016, using the online abstract submission form (login required). The form requests the following information:
- Paper title
- Name(s) of principal author(s)
- Whether you propose to submit a complete paper or only a presentation
- Primary point of contact e-mail address
- Text providing sufficient detail for the Technical Papers Committee to perform a review
The text should include a problem statement or introduction, an outline of the key points to be made in the paper, and conclusions or recommendations.
