November 20-21, 2019 Location: Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel at 900 S Orme St, Arlington, VA Theme: Deliver, Sustain and Modernize Lethal Combat Systems in the Age of Digital and Model Based Engineering
“Digital engineering approaches and methods are a key enabler to delivery of affordable capability to the warfighter with speed and lethality. The Department of the Navy has proactively embraced digital engineering and believes it is the way we must execute business in the 21st century.” Mr. William Bray, DASN (RDT&E)
In June 2018, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E)) released a Digital Engineering Strategy built on five foundational elements necessary for a Digital Engineering Ecosystem to thrive:
Secretary Geurts (ASN(RDA)) lists “deliver and sustain lethal capacity” as one of his top priorities. To remain ahead of the demands for new and upgraded weapon systems, the Navy must continually scrutinize its approach to acquisition and systems engineering, By providing a more agile and responsive development environment, model based system engineering and digital engineering support engineering excellence and provides a foundation to fight and win the wars of the future.
The 2019 ASNE Combat Systems Symposium will look into how model based and digital engineering are providing avenues for more efficient and effective Combat System engineering and delivery of agile systems to meet the threats today and in the future. How we sustain and modernize the combat system will also be addressed, to include the challenges and obstacles in our way to maintain maritime superiority.
“Therefore, we must advance agility when we think about, and build, our future force structure. We need more ships and aircraft and vehicles, but that equipment must provide flexibility, adaptability, faster development cycles, reduced maintenance requirements, greater lethality, and an industrial strategy that sustains a modern, flexible and sustainable industrial base.” – Hon. Thomas Modly, Undersecretary of the Navy

The 2019 ASNE Combat Systems Symposium (CSS) provides the naval engineering community, and specifically, the combat systems engineering community with expert panels, technical presentations, networking opportunities to keep abreast of the Navy’s progress and remaining challenges in developing more capable and more affordable combat systems for Navy ships.
The 2019 CSS Committee is seeking technical papers leading to twenty minute presentations during the Symposium on any topics related to Combat Systems Engineering in the age of digital and model based systems engineering as follows, but not limited to:
While all papers will be considered for presentation at the symposium, space is limited and those pertaining to the ASNE CSS 2019 theme of “Deliver, Sustain and Modernize Lethal Combat Systems in the Age of Digital and Model Based Engineering” will be given priority. Limited slots are available on the agenda to present to the main audience.
Please submit a brief proposal. The submission form will ask for:
