We have the trainings, resources, and support for you to master Blender, free to download 3D design software package. This challenge will take some time, but it is a skill that will pay off for years to come. You can rise to this challenge!

You don’t have to go it alone! Work together with friends or new virtual acquaintances. Video game design is always a team effort, so you can show off your technical and cooperative skills with the FLEET Design Challenge. (Organizations using Bentley’s Photo-to-3D software, click here.)

There are libraries of published 3D objects at websites like tubrosquid.com and assetstore.unity.com. Find an object that will significantly improve FLEET gameplay and submit your idea using the form below.

FLEET is hosting a design contests for new 3D objects for the next update. Want new cargo? Have an idea for a deck house? You can build it!
We are using the free Blender software to create objects. Use the videos below to learn this software package. You dream up the idea, explain how it fits into the flow of the video game, and then create your own piece of the video game.
This opportunity is perfect if you are considering:
- Becoming a video game designer,
- Working in the engineer field,
- a career in visual arts or graphic design,
- Love learning new skills!

Please understand that Blender is a professional software package, and it takes practice to master We help you through this learning process, and ask you to be patient.
Fiverr.com is a website for professionals 13 years of age and older offering gig work. Blender gigs typically cost $10-$500 per object. Part of the cost is generally 2-3 revisions because it takes drafts to make a perfect final product. This Design Contest is structured like these real-life professionals. Your object will be evaluated by game and graphic designers. We may accept it the first time or request some specific edits. Do not be discouraged! This is how video games are made. And, you can claim that you designed parts of a published video game.

We also will happily review submissions to provide feedback for future changes.
How to submit
Use one of these forms to accompany your submission. You can download and type into the one-page templates OR download and write on the two-page worksheets.
You can submit the two-page competition form along with your object any time before July 31, 2018. If you submit it early, we can give you feedback, so please start now!
Rules – Giving your idea to the FLEET video game
The rules for original artwork and previously-published artwork are slightly different:
Original artwork. If you create an original object, you acknowledge that you are transferring the object, your written work, and your concept to the FLEET video game program. The game will be moved to an open source platform in 2019, and your object and ideas will be freely available for anyone to use or modify at that time.
Previously-published artwork: If you submit a link to a previously-published object, you acknowledge that you are transferring your written work and your concept to the FLEET video game program. The game will be moved to an open source platform in 2019, and your object will be freely available for anyone to use or modify at that time.
Awards
When your object is accepted, you will receive a personalized letter of commendation that describes why we selected your work and what traits we see in your work. You are free to use this letter in any future application process. In addition, we will publicly celebrate your work on ASNE’s social media platforms including the FLEET Hall of Fame.
Specifications for FLEET’s 3D Object Contest:
- Submit original artwork as an FBX file.
- Artwork should be scaled so that 1 unit corresponds to 1 meter in real life.
- Reduce the number of vertices and triangles to ensure your object requires minimal computation
- All submissions should be sent to fleet@navalengineers.org before July 31, 2018 11:59pm EST.
A Look Ahead
This Design Challenge is the first step toward completely crowdsourcing the future modifications and designs. Keep an eye on this website in the Fall to see the next challenges. We will be encouraging you to design larger and larger pieces of the FLEET video game. We hope you enjoy this journey!
