Mariners' Museum Tour
The Mariners' Museum in Newport News has generously invited MegaRust 2017 attendees to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Batten Conservation Complex and the USS Monitor Gallery, led by center director John V. Quarstein and staff conservators. This 45-minute tour provides a unique opportunity for MegaRust 2017 attendees to explore conservation efforts related to the iconic Civil War ironclad. Visit the world’s largest underwater archaeological metals laboratory where nearly 200 tons of materials recovered from the shipwreck site are being conserved. Of special interest is the 120-ton revolving gun turret.
Two tour times are available: 5:15 pm and 6:00 pm on June 20. Participation is free, but each tour is limited to 50 individuals. Attendees must provide their own transportation from MegaRust at the Newport News Marriott at City Center to the main entrance to The Mariners' Museum (100 Museum Dr, Newport News, VA 23606). Indicate your wish to participate by checking the box next to your desired tour when registering for MegaRust 2017.
Tour participants will need to bring with them a completed copy of this waiver form and abide by these rules and regulations.
