Title: Versatile High Performance, Low Weight Polymer Nanocomposites
Abstract:
We demonstrate a novel materials development for the preparation of graphene-reinforced polymer matrix composites (G-PMC) using in situ shear exfoliation of mined graphite directly within a molten polymer. The resulting G-PMCs offer multifunctional properties and have modulus values comparable and higher than carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites. These high performance, low cost, low weight composites may be used in a variety of applications, including structural components, additive manufacturing, flexible small ships, and other ship structures.
