Meet August's ASNE Member of the Month - John Pyron! Read on to learn a bit more about John in his interview with Membership Manager Michelle.
Michelle: What got you into Naval Engineering? (What specific event or moment).
John: My second tour as an Ensign – DCA on a Gearing Class WW II Destroyer. Responsible for repairing systems that were no longer sustained. Qualifying as an EOOW in a 600 pound plant, with no automated controls, while serving in the Engineering Dept.
Michelle: What is a fun fact most people don't know about you?
John:I like to cook for family and friends, and entertain.
Michelle: What is one engineer/scientist/ or mathematician dead or alive would you like to meet?
John:The NASA program manager with the responsibly for the next manned flight to the Moon.
Michelle: If you could engineer your perfect concession stand/food truck, what would it be?
John: It may be an oxymoron, but Healthy Southern Food, with lots of fruits and vegetables.
Michelle: Why are you a member of ASNE?
John: Stay close and connected with, and to be able to continue to support, the Operational Fleet.
Michelle: What does "Naval Engineering" mean to you?
John:Putting and keeping ships at sea, performing the mission, standing the watch.
