On August 19, 2021, ABS Director of Offshore Technology Joseph Rousseau presented a webinar that dove deeply into novel design concepts and New Technology Qualification. This webinar described the efforts required for technologies that are being developed faster than codes and standards can be developed. The discussion included guidance for early adopters including Approvals in Principle and assignment of Technology Readiness Levels, and shared strategies for implementation so that risks are better managed.

Joseph (Joe) Rousseau is Director – Offshore Technology with ABS. He is currently responsible for directing research and development activities for offshore drilling and production, subsea mining, and alternative energy.
In the past Rousseau has held leadership roles with ABS in the US, Canada, UK, and Singapore. He is active in the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
